ROBERTO BURLE MARX 100 ANOS: A PERMANENCIA DO INSTAVEL

This is an exhibit not to be missed! And could not be in a more appropriate place...Ibirapuera Park...which was designed by Burle Marx! What is so special about this exhibit is the diverse collection of this brilliant and multi talented artist! On display are paintings, costume and stage designs, jewelry pieces and a magnificent 25 meter tapestry! And not to mention the numerous designs of landscaping projects in Brasil and around the world. Burle Marx studied painting in Germany where he regularly visited the Dahlem Botanical Gardens, there he learned about the Brazilian native flora which was a source of inspiration for his landscaping designs. He returned to Brazil in 1930 and in 1931 completed his first landscaping design, a private residence in Rio. Marx went on to become one of the most important landscape designers of the 20th century!

fun fact:
Burle Marx designed the Copacabana beach walk in 1971. An abstract interpretation of traditional Portuguese paving pattern using waves of black and white stone.
